Bullion Stitch

Bullion knot or bullion stitch is a Brazilian embroidery technique. This stitch lies embossed on the fabric.

Bullion stitch is a very easy stitch but for achieving it, u need a little practice and patience Smile.

Use milliners needle or straw needle for ease of stitching.

lets go into the process,

DSCN5094

Step 1 : Take the needle out through the point a.

DSCN5095

Step 2 : Insert the needle at point b ( a point little far from point a, take point b to the direction which your bullion stitch should lie. (here it is a->b vertical), and take the needle partially out through point a.

DSCN5097

Step 3 : (reverse the embroidery loop for the ease of making wraps) Make wraps around the needle with the working thread. The number of wraps ie the wrap length and the distance between the points a and b should be same). Don’t make the wraps too tight or too loose.

DSCN5098

step 4 : Slowly take the needle out by keeping your fingers softly on the wraps. Then Insert the needle at the point b and tight the knot.

Here goes our hero…..

Chain Stitch

Chain stitch is again a decorative stitch, which involves a series of petal like stitches.

DSCN4883

Step 1 : Take the needle out through the point a.

DSCN4884

Step 2 : Again insert the needle at the point a and take it out partially through  point b.

 DSCN4885

Step 3 : Twist the working thread around the needle.

Keep in mind : The thread should be parallel to the needle.

DSCN4886

Step 4 : Tighten the loop by taking out the needle and insert the needle at a point outside the loop, near to point b.

You will get a petal like motif,

DSCN4887

These motifs stitches in a series forms the chain stitch.

DSCN4888

For chain stitch insert the needle again at point b, ( b turns a in the next motif) and continue the process.

This forms the chain stitch.

The back side of the stitch will look some what like this.

I ll share some of my chain stitch works in the next post.

Enjoy stitching !

kamal Kadai work tutorial

I have given a brief explanation on basics of kamal kadai work in previous post. Now let us move on to the tutorial part…

DSCN4809

Step 1 : Trace the pattern to the fabric. The pattern has a step like structure, this is the peculiarity of kamal work. Here in this pattern there are 3 levels for the petal , you can add or less the levels as you wish.

DSCN4812

Step 2 : Make 6 straight stitches by joining  points at the bottom of the petal(make these bottom points little close), and the outer edge (the edges which I have numbered) of each step. The straight stitches made to the points (1 , 6), (2 ,5), and (3 ,4 ) should be of same length. This is the basement stitch of kamal kadai work. Don’t make the stitches too tight or too loose.

DSCN4816

Step 3 : The technique of kamal kadai work is simple needle weaving technique. After making the straight stitches, take the needle out through a point at the bottom right or left corner of the petal. Then without pricking the fabric, pass the needle above the first thread, then below the second thread, again above the third, below the fourth like that.

DSCN4818

Step 4 : Turn around the needle and repeat the Step 3 process.

DSCN4819

Step 5 : Repeat Step 3 and 4 till the first level, that is the (1,6) pair gets filled. Now only four straight stitches that is (2,5) and (3,4) are involved in the weaving.

DSCN4826

Step 6 : Fill (2,5), then weave (3,4), after finishing (3,4) that is the upper level insert the needle and fasten the thread.

DSCN4828

Step 7 : Finish all the petals by repeating the above steps.

Keep in mind :

  • Make sure that the thread is long enough to complete one petal.
  • Don’t make the thread too tight or too loose.
  • Prick the fabric at the starting and finishing points only. Do not prick in between the straight stitches.

Hope you got an idea of kamal kadai work.

I value your words, please don’t go without telling a word…..

hands on

happy stitching….

Kamal Kadai Work

Hi,

Here’s my New Year Gift for u , tutorial of the beautiful Kamal Kadai work…….Smile

Before actually getting into the tutorial part lemme talk some basics of the kamal work …

Kamal Kadai Work – the basics…

Kamal Kadai , a beautiful thread magic from Indian Embroidery, originated from Andhra Pradesh. It has a 3D effect. Needle weaving is the basic stitching technique used. Any surface embroidery stitches can be used for embellishment with kamal kadai work.

Thread

A special kind of thread called Cone thread is used for kamal kadai work. It is a bit thick thread which gives a 3D effect for the work.

DSCN4811

The problem with this thread is that it gets twisted easily…so be careful Smile.

Fabric

Any type of fabric can be used. I tried on all sorts of fabrics.

Pattern

The thread and fabric is ready, now a pattern is needed. It is really easy to create a pattern for this work. But for the trial outs u need a pattern.

scan0040

I got this pattern from internet, but now I couldn’t recollect the path I am sorry….Sad smile

Thank u for that wonderful person who uploaded this pattern.

If u know the path please lemme know I ll post it here.

So these are basic needs of kamal kadai stitch.

Now be ready to start stitching, I ll be back with a detailed tutorial…

till then

happiness always,

rajis.
