Peacock , my dream work !– First trials

After starting, working with threads, I was eager to embroider a Peacock, but at the earlier times I was not that confident to take up a peacock project, but seeing the works of many talented hands I couldn't suppress my eager for long, so I decided to try out one,

a bit curtain raiser…..

Pattern, actually I struggled a bit, I got one from Flickr, but not in an adjustable format, somehow I managed to get a print out, a bit late Ina introduced a very interesting  blog with beautiful patterns. Ina of letslearnembroidery is also providing a detailed tutorial on working out peacock.

Next comes thread, it ll be more nice if the thread had a glittering effect, I have worked with anchor cotton threads, here at cochin I couldn’t find any thread other than cotton or cone thread. The colors of metallic thread is also not getting Sad smile. Anyway my Amma, and brother in law is out for shopping for me, well they r now at Badogadara, so many embroidery shops are there it seems, hmmm lets see..

Then fabric, I tried it on a cotton pillow cover. I have plans to work on a sari, set mundu, tshirt etc, but not now, only  after making my peacocks little more perfect Smile.

Here comes our hero…

Yeah, there’s still a lot of room for improvement I know, but I am not that disappointed…

ll b back with more perfect peacocks…

Beautiful...I love peacock design. I believe peacock has inspired almost all visual arts.
If you need any threads please let me know. I will send. I stay in Bangalore. The non availability of threads should not be a constraint for your creativity.

It looks beautiful..Doesn't matter what thread you have,if your stitches and colors are good then your work will speak for itself :)
By the way, did you use back stitches for the neck? How about stem stitch in one strand?

Deepa, i started with back stitch at the lower neck, i didnt like it much , so i moved to stem stitch, as u said stem stitch looks good.

Raji,
nice work..definitely not disappointing..indeed it is beautiful..when we heard peacock, first thought come to mind is its feathers..if you feel anchor threads are not shiny you can use silk machine threads na..hope they are available in your place. and i wish you to get the desired threads for your next projects..
BTW did you check antique pattern library where you can find many more peacock and feather designs..

Beautiful! I want to get started on my peacocks, but I have so many things to do right now.

Lakshmi is right. I found a gorgeous peacock in one of the antique books, probably from antiquepatternlibrary.org (but possibly from gutenberg.org).

Wow, that's really fast, Raji. It's really nice if you have so much of free time, isn't it?Like you, finding embroidery threads is a headache for me.I guess, we just have to use whatever we have to create beautiful things.Your peacock is beautiful and I'm glad that I'm a part of this wonderful work.Love, Ina.
