French Knot

French Knot – the last on my table cloth project !
French Knot is used for creating flowers, flower centers etc. it gives an embossed look on fabric. It is really an easy and a beautiful stitch.
Let us see the process..
DSCN4725

Step 1 : Take the needle out through the point A

DSCN4726

Step 2 : Wrap the thread around the needle once or twice, as shown in the above fig.
Keep in mind : while wrapping, keep the needle close to the fabric.
Step 3 : Gently pull the long thread, to make the twists tight around the needle. (don’t make too tight)

DSCN4727

(move the needle backwards if necessary)
Step 4 : Insert the needle at the point A (the same point where u took out the thread), (by keeping the long thread tight), and pull it tight.
Your French knot will look like this….

DSCN4728

You may find this knot a bit difficult at the first attempt, but don’t get frustrated, it is very easy, use both hands, left for holding needle and right for thread or vice versa…

Hands on
DSCN4729

Hope you all have a happy stitching time…
do inform me about your french knot experience…Smile

plz see one more french knot application here.

Flat stitch

Flat Stitch – Next filling stitch on my table cloth…

Flat stitch is somewhat similar to opened fishbone stitch, it is again a good filling stitch, this stitch is also done by dividing the pattern into four parts.

Let us see the process,

The pattern is divided into four parts, you can see four lines L (left line), m1 (middle first), m2(middle second) and R (right).

DSCN4707

Step 1 : Take the needle out through the line L.

DSCN4709

Step 2 : Insert the needle at m2 and take it out through R.

DSCN4710

Step 3 : Insert the needle at m1 and take it out through L.

So the needle flow is

The finished pattern will look like this..

DSCN4712

I have left lot of spaces in between each stitch for understanding the stitch flow, when u do make the stitches little more closer.

the wrong side of the stitch will look somewhat like this…

Opened Fishbone Stitch

Opened Fishbone Stitch , a variation of fishbone stitch used as decorative as well as filling stitch. The difference is that in opened fishbone stitch the petal or the leaf pattern is divided into four parts, instead of a single line, here there is two lines. So the middle stitches fall on these two middle lines.

Let us see the process,

Here I am using a leaf type pattern, and it is divided into four parts. So here you can see four lines L (left line), m1 (middle first), m2 (middle second), and R (right).

DSCN4716

Step 1 : Take the needle out through the line L.

DSCN4718

Step 2 : Insert the needle at m2 and take it out through m1. ( see the above fig)

DSCN4720

Step 3 : Insert the needle at R and take it out through L

continue the process… your end product will look somewhat like this…

DSCN4668

the reverse side of this stitch looks like this…..

DSCN4669

I left a lot of space in between each stitch for understanding, when u do, make the stitches little more closer..

Hands on

I hope u all can try on this beautiful stitch.

Long and Short stitch

Long and Short stitch – a beautiful filling stitch on my table cloth !

Long and short stitch is a group of straight stitches, same as satin stitch, the difference is that in long and short stitch as the name says the straight stitches are of different lengths.

Keep in Mind : All the straight stitches should be in one direction.

So before starting the work, you decide in which direction should be the stitch flow.

Let us see the process,

DSCN4690

Iam going to fill the center petal with long and short stitch , the stitch direction is vertical. I have drawn lines just for your understanding.

DSCN4692

Make a short stitch till the first line then a long stitch upto second line. (I made my stitch a little slanting since the edge is little narrowed).

Continue the process…

The end product will look like this…. beautiful na ????

Fishbone Stitch

Fishbon Stitch – another stitch in my table cloth project…

Fishbone stitch is used as a filling stitch for leaves and flower petal patterns. This stitch is done by dividing the pattern into two parts, so its plaited center makes it perfect for leaf pattern.

Let us see the process,

I have drawn a line in the center to divide the pattern into two.

DSCN4671

Step 1 : Make a straight stitch at the tip of the pattern.

DSCN4676

Step 2 : After making the straight stitch , take the needle out through a point on the top of the line c.

DSCN4677

Step 3 : Insert the needle at a point on line b , stitch should be slanting (the point on line b must be below the point on line c, see the fig).

DSCN4678

Step 4 :Take the needle out through a point on line a,( which lies little above the point on line b).

DSCN4679

Step 5 : Insert the needle at a point on line b, the point should be below the first point, on the line b.

continue the process till the end of the pattern.

Keep in mind : As we are proceeding down, every new needle points should be below its previous point on each line.

DSCN4653

For understanding clearly the flow of stitch , I made it leaving space in between. While incorporating this stitch in your embroidery use single strand of thread and make stitch more close…

Hand on…

I am eager to know whether you can follow my tutorials, please fill the comments section below,

Herringbone Stitch

Herringbone Stitch –third in my table cloth project….

This is again a beautiful, multipurpose stitch, it can be used as an outline as well as filling stitch. It is also used for decorating borders.
now let us see how it is done,
Iam doing it in between two parallel lines…

DSCN4639

Step 1 : Take the needle out through the point ‘a’, which lies on the bottom line.

Step 2:Insert  needle on the point ‘b’, and take it out through the point ‘c’, both points lies on the upper line.

DSCN4637

Step 3 : After taking out the needle through point ‘c’, insert the needle through the point ‘d’ and take it out through the point ‘e’, both points lies on the bottom line.

Buttonhole Stitch

Buttonhole Stitch – Second stitch for decorating my table cloth….

This is again a less complicated, multi purpose, beautiful stitch. It can be used as filling as well as outline stitch.

You can create tiny flowers using this stitch. When done it in stacks it looks like a net, which is a suitable filling for large areas…

so let us see how it is done…

DSCN4624

Step 1 :Take the needle out through the point ‘a’.

Step 2 :Insert the needle through the point ‘b’ which lies above and a little right to the point ‘a’.

Step 3 :Take out the needle through the point ‘c’ which lies on the same line of point ‘a’, parallel to the point ‘b’.

Keep in mind : While taking the needle out through point ‘c’, keep the working thread under the needle.

DSCN4625

in the next step the point ‘c’ becomes the point ‘a’ and so on…

DSCN4626

This stitch is done from left to right, to make a net look make a line of stitches above this line from right to left..

DSCN4627

continue the stitching to left..

Satin stitch….

Hi,
The planning phase of my table cloth project is almost over……I have decided to fill the side petal of main flower with satin stitch….

DSCN4614

so lemme introduce satin stitch…… a beaaaaaaaaaautifullllllll stitch.

First stitch in my project, the satin stitch….

In simple words, satin stitch is a group of closely packed straight stitches. so from that sentence itself u get an idea that it is a very very easy stitch, yes u r correct it is really an easy stitch, because straight stitch is doing by passing needle in and out through the fabric.., the difficult part is maintaining its beauty and perfection. I ll give u tips on maintaining the perfection , before that let us eye the satin stitch..

DSCN4617

see the straight stitches, I have given. I have drawn lines just to show the flow of straight stitches…

For satin stitch, usually a single strand of cotton thread is used, cotton thread u get contains six strands of thread, for separating a thread, pull out a single thread from the group, do not pick more than one at a time, the whole thing will get twisted.

DSCN4576

Keep in mind :
    • while doing satin stitch use  single strand of cotton thread. (I used only cotton thread for satin stitch).
    • always draw an outline before doing satin stitch.
    • should be very very careful about the starting and ending points of the thread.
    • straight stitches must lie within the outline, otherwise ur work will look distorted.
    • always try to use an embroidery ring while doing satin stitch, so that when fabric gets fixed, u ll get a clear idea of the outline.
Satin stitch is suitable for filling small areas.
So my petals are almost finished see…

DSCN4622

while iam working on this my lil boy asked me why u r stitching ‘u’ amma? I was like eeehhhh…. that was a news for me, till then I didn’t know that he knows what ‘u’ looks like…Smile
